I’m Geth, a Manchester-based creative director and multidisciplinary designer with more than 20 years of experience across visual communication.

I help charities, cultural organisations, businesses and brands turn ideas, information and stories into communication that people can understand, connect with and remember.

What I do

My work spans brand identity, campaigns, graphic design, illustration, animation, film, photography and sound.

Some projects require one of those disciplines. Others bring several together. I don’t impose the same visual style on every brief; the approach should be shaped by the message, the audience and the character of the organisation.

That might mean creating a complete visual identity, explaining a complicated subject through animation, developing a social campaign, designing a publication or combining physical and digital techniques to create something unexpected.

How I work

Every project begins with understanding what needs to be communicated, who it needs to reach and what response it should create.

From there, I develop a clear creative idea and find the most effective way to bring it to life. I can take a project from its earliest stages—research, concepts, treatments and storyboards—through design, production, project management and final delivery.

My work is often bold, playful and characterful, but never style over substance. Every creative decision should support the message and help the work connect with its audience.

My background

For 17 years, I was co-founder and creative director of Young, an independent illustration, animation and design studio.

During that time, I led projects for charities, cultural institutions and international brands, working across campaigns, identities, publications, films, animation and digital content.

I now work independently, bringing that same breadth of experience to projects while remaining personally involved from the initial conversation through to final delivery.

Collaboration

Depending on the needs and scale of a project, I can take it from concept through design and production myself, or bring together trusted illustrators, animators, filmmakers, photographers, prop makers, developers and other specialists.

This flexible approach allows each project to have exactly the right mix of skills, while I maintain a clear and consistent creative direction throughout.

Work with purpose

I’m particularly passionate about using creativity to make a positive difference.

Much of my work has involved helping charities and public-interest organisations communicate complex, sensitive or important subjects in ways that feel clear, human and engaging. This includes projects for Scouts, NSPCC, Childline, CoppaFeel! and the NHS.

Whatever the subject, my aim is to create work with a clear purpose, a strong idea and enough personality to be remembered.
